May the Land

A group of Yale-NUS College students grapple with what they have to keep from their time at the school after it shuts, and if this blip in time matters. The days come and pass the way the trees shed leaves; they graduate and grow up navigating the larger world. What remains still returns to the earth, into our flesh, and into the back of our minds where we can only try to grasp.

On 27 August 2021, it was announced that Yale-NUS College would merge with the University Scholars Programme of NUS. Since 2011, the liberal arts college has become an institution that was interdisciplinary in its curriculum, teaching and way of life. It was an ever-growing space that endeavoured to celebrate diverse views and identities. Its abrupt conclusion was a fracture and a heavy loss - if not a continued source of confusion for many students and stakeholders.

What do we choose to remember and what do we let slip away? May the Land (2025) questions if it's ever possible to master the art of losing.
